Which service?

Which service suits me?

Three questions, a straight answer.

  1. Have you registered a trademark before?
  2. Are you sure your mark’s name is not registered to someone else and that it meets SAIP’s conditions?
  3. Do you have time to follow up your application yourself for 3 to 5 months?
  1. As it’s your first trademark, we handle all of SAIP’s steps for you, from studying the mark to the certificate.
  2. Because checking these two things is what protects your fees. A specialist studies your mark before filing, with the study guarantee.
  3. Because the application needs 3 to 5 months of follow-up, and we follow it for you until you receive the certificate.

Questions we hear often

Services and prices

How much does it cost to register a trademark with you?

Our fee is paid in two parts: SAR 1,400 after your application is officially filed, and SAR 1,400 when you receive the certificate. The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) fees are paid directly to SAIP in three stages: SAR 1,000 at filing, SAR 500 for publication and SAR 5,000 for final registration.

Do I pay anything before the application is filed?

No. We study your mark and give you an honest estimate of its chances at no cost. The first payment is only due after your application is officially filed with SAIP.

How much does a trademark translation cost with you?

SAR 400, one package that includes everything: the certified translation, all the application information, the class, the AI study, the three SAIP guides and the filing video. There are no extra fees.

Is the translation included in the trademark registration service?

Yes. The trademark registration service includes the certified translation and all the application information at no extra fee.

I translated my mark with you, then decided you should register it. Do I pay twice?

No. If you order the registration service within 30 days of receiving the translation, we deduct SAR 400 from the first registration payment.

What if I find the same service for less?

If you find a SAIP-licensed provider offering the same service with the same features and guarantees for less, we will do it for you free of charge.

Are you licensed?

Yes. Alama is a service of Qiyad Intellectual Property Office, licensed by the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property under number ALN202501185 and registered under unified national number 7041450235.

Registration

How long does trademark registration take?

Usually 3 to 5 months. SAIP responds to the application within 7 to 90 days (about 14 days in most cases), the mark is then published for 60 days, and the certificate is issued once the final fee is paid.

What are the stages of trademark registration?

It starts with studying the mark and choosing its class, then filing the application and paying the filing fee, then SAIP's formal and substantive examination. After initial acceptance the publication fee is paid and the mark is published for 60 days. If no one objects, the final registration fee is paid and the certificate is issued.

Can I register a trademark without a commercial registration?

Yes. A trademark can be registered in an individual's name; a commercial registration is not required.

What is a trademark class, and how do I choose one?

Marks are classified by the products or services they are used for, under the international Nice Classification (45 classes). We choose the right class for your business as part of the study, because a wrong class can mean registering again from scratch.

What happens if my mark is rejected?

If it is rejected for a reason we did not tell you about in the study, you choose: we refund our fee and the filing fee (SAR 1,000), or we file a new application or an appeal and pay the SAIP fee (SAR 1,000) for you. For any other rejection, we file a new application or write the appeal at no extra fee (once each per order).

Do I lose the SAIP fees if my mark is rejected?

If, God forbid, the application is rejected at substantive examination, SAIP does not refund any fees already paid. But if the rejection is for a reason we did not tell you about in our initial study, Alama will compensate you.

Translation

Is a certified translation required to register a trademark in Saudi Arabia?

Yes, if your mark contains any non-Arabic letter or word. The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) requires a certified translation to accept the application; without it, the application is returned at the formal examination. A mark that is fully Arabic, in letters and words, does not need one.

My mark has only one English letter. Do I need a translation?

Yes. A certified translation is required even if your mark has a single Latin letter, such as a K inside the logo.

How long does a trademark translation take?

You receive the certified translation and all your application information within 30 minutes of confirming your order with us, during our working hours.

What does the translation file include?

The certified translation stamped by a certified translation office, the pronunciation of every Latin text, the Arabic and Latin names, the mark description, the mark type, and your mark's image resized to SAIP's size. All of it is ordered so you can paste it straight into SAIP's form.

What is your translation guarantee?

If SAIP returns your application because of any mistake in our file, in the translation or the information, we correct it for free. If it cannot be corrected, we refund the fees you paid us in full.

Should I file myself or leave the registration to you?

If you are comfortable using SAIP's website and following up on your application, the translation file is enough. If this is your first trademark, or you want a specialist study with a guarantee and follow-up until the certificate, the registration service suits you better.

Trademark basics

What is a trademark?

It is what sets your products or services apart from competitors. It can be a name, a logo, a symbol, a slogan or a design, or a mix of these.

What is the difference between a trademark and a trade name?

A trade name is your establishment's official name in the commercial register with the Ministry of Commerce. A trademark identifies your products or services, needs its own registration with the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property for exclusive protection, and can be sold or licensed as a separate asset.

What are the benefits of registering my trademark?

An exclusive right that stops others from using or copying it, an asset that raises the value of your business, more trust from your customers, and the option to franchise and expand locally and internationally.

How long does trademark protection last?

Ten years from the protection date, renewable for equal periods. Renewal is filed during the final year, or within the six months after it ends; otherwise the mark is struck off.

What are the risks of not registering my mark?

Someone else may register it first, forcing you to change your whole identity and lose everything you have built. Competitors may copy it and mislead your customers, and proving ownership in any dispute becomes hard.
